I understand your points, and if I believe most people thought like me I would agree, but either I am on the fringe or you are being dishonest about the options that are actually out there.

I know maybe 1/10 people that own a computer these days, and maybe 1/2 computer owners would know how to connect their device to it. I think that number is pretty accurate.

Beyond that all "easy to use" OS are meant for Pixel devices. I know almost no one with a pixel device in person.

Lineage is not really an option unless you have a Pixel or one of the most flagship phones. If you think I'm being dishonest go to your phone store for android devices and look up lineage support. I mean literally down to the part number. Many of the lineage supported devices are strange unlocked ones outside the country. I couldn't find one that was supported, or had the proper tooling from the MFG to support them. In the US we don't have fair phones. And you'd be hard pressed to convince anyone I know to buy a device they have never held online.

I mean GPS that actually works. They simply can't compete with Google. I also use OsmAnd and have tried others based on OpenStreetMap. Everyone I tried to convince using it reverted. I still have horrible issues with OsmAnd. Chugging battery, slow loads, incorrect routes, ghost addresses. Town names that arent named correctly against state GIS data. Search is terrible, to the point where I end up dropping a pin near where I need to be looking on a map and using coords instead. Its unusable for normies IMO. No other app compares with OsmAnd that I have come across.

For techie people sure. But this is minutes of work every time you want to go somewhere and if its an area you don't know the damn thing could be dropping you off somewhere totally wrong. This isn't just my experience I'm naming. I still regularly use it, but this is the tolerance part I'm talking about. I have but others don't. That's modern normie live in my experience.

This is not aimed at you, but just speaking out loud. Anytime someone says, just go to F-Droid, there are plenty of alternatives for X app. Or simply install X degoogled OS. They haven't used them for more than a moment, or haven't tried anything outside their little box of devices.

If you couldn't tell this is a personal issue I have been thoroughly exhausted with.

You don't need bleeding edge latest devices, there are plenty available that are several generations before brand new in a box or refurbished ones, they work just fine, "keeping up with the Joneses" mentality is a mental disorder. 😂

One you will pay a high price for indulging...

Most do it when they are young but you are supposed to grow out of it.

If you do get a previous gen, make sure it's in the Pro line. The difference between a 6a and a 7 Pro made me laugh out loud. I love them both and carry them both, but iPhones don't tend to differ much between the last few gens. Androids phones, though.. heh.

A good tool gets out of your way.
