I clocked in at 9 and worked til noon, then took a lunch break while my co-workers napped.

translation:

I pumped milk starting at 9am to reduce overnight engorgement so the babies could latch nicely later on.

I ate breakfast which had a good balance of carbs, protein and yummy things that I like. About half way through, falco stirs and comes to me for his second breakfast. He's a slow, sleepy eater so I wake him up by unceremoniously stripping him, wiggling his hands and feet. When he's ready, I put him to the boob and both of us eat leisurely.

After some time, he feels full and falls asleep with the nipple slipping out his mouth and milk dribbling. I hold him for a while so he's upright and keeps all his stomach contents where they belong. taro comes to visit me and I give him a smooch on the head before he runs off with my tube of lanolin.

My arm is getting tired holding falco. I have to make sure not to rest too much weight on my belly as I'm still healing from the birth. I put him propped on pillow with some blankets and just stare at his sleeping face for a while. I thought he'd stay asleep and I could move onto my next appointment of the day.

Nope, his eyes opened and falco was wide awake. curious, content, alert. he has no idea where he is, what he's doing, what he's looking at so I talk to him. He has no idea what I'm saying but he knows my voice. I put on some music and I play with his hands to the best.

It's the soundtrack to KPop Demon Hunters for those wondering. I'm obsessed with Golden right now ✨

It feels slow and wistful. I've only been hanging out with one baby while the other is still sleeping in the other room. It feels like being a mom to a singleton. What happens next is where the fun of being a twin mom starts.

churro starts to stir and he is brought to me. I slip away quickly for a bathroom break and come back to two babies at my bedside. One has fed, but might want to eat more. One just woke up and definitely wants to eat.

I slowly wake up churro like I did with falco. he's much easier to wake so I didn't have to strip him. He opens his eyes and starts to explore the world by staring in various directions around the room. He's cool, calm and collected while falco gets increasingly more fussy and all his signs point to feed me!

I make the executive decision on how to proceed next. falco will be at the boob (again) and churro will be propped up in front of me to be fed with a bottle. My wonderful assistant (husband) helps arrange everything and offers to feed the bottle but I wanted to do it myself, to see how it would work logistically. A beta test, if you will. Tandem feeding in some form will go into production eventually so as they say, test early and often.

It worked absolutely beautifully. I cradled falco on the boob and had my arm outstretched to bottle feed churro. They both ate happily. When falco was done, I handed him off and put churro on the boob as well.

I looked at the clock and it was nearly lunch time. For a brief moment, it felt like I was in the office with a busy morning where the hustle of work turns 9 am to noon in an instant. I haven't been an office worker in almost a decade now.

By noon they were both milk happy and deeply asleep. I have a couple hours of break now to eat and sleep until it is time to do it all over again.

By the way, I didn't mention all diaper changes that happened during all this. There were many. At some point I was peed on. Outfits were changed due to spit up. Thankfully dad was with me to take care of all the unglamorous baby care tasks so I could enjoy the warm fuzzies of motherhood.
