I don't, as he didn't put in the effort to understand it from first principles. He has to take bitcoiner's word for it all, and thus he is understandably skeptical (too good to be true, etc).
He was close, but he's highly invested in the fiat world.

Without understanding the fiat world.
When people ask you to explain Bitcoin, don't. Talk about money. Simple concepts. Why do we have money? What purpose does it serve? What properties should it have to serve that purpose?
That's been my guess as well.
