He was definitely poking the bear. Anyway despite what anyone thinks these defeds aren't exactly good for the health of the fedi. Will be interesting to see what happens from here on out.

Graf has made a lot of money from the PPN tho. Where are you getting that figure from?
He makes money from selling services to other people. Poast is a loss maker. In fact it's probably a liability to selling more services so even worse than just that dono's don't break even.
He makes a lot in donos from what I've seen.
It's certainly a lot compared to other fediverse sites but also much, much larger userbase so the cost to run is higher.
I doubt it's much of a loss maker plus it's how he advertises his services.

He makes a big post about how you should host your own instance for the health of the fedi and how he offers hosting services if you need help doing it every time his site gets an influx of users, and we all know he doesn't give a shit about the health of the fedi given how much he defederates over hurt feelings and criticism.
There are fedi hosting services that let you host thousands of accounts for like $200 per month. Graf used to (lie and) say it cost him $3000-4500 per month, and he’d collect that much in donos.
Are these sites hosting the big mastodon instances? Basically only poast and baest are over 1k active I think over on this side. Probably kf too when it's userbase comes back...

OK maybe that was before my time. I've just seen posts where he said how much he was down just in 2022 out of his own pocket after dono's. I can only go by what he says, but like I said he doesn't deny that the services he's selling have been highly profitable.

Well he runs it on donations so the more ppl pissed at him enough to leave the better. Also means the remaining userbase probably is less willing to donate.
