Free market was the fact that Atari did it one way and Nintendo could do it another way while people could freely choose between them.

True. But one of the rules of Nintendo was exclusive licenses for specific games for Nintendo, if the developers wanted to develop for the NES.

Yeah, it's a good point and I would be interested what other folks think here, but to me what Nintendo did still sounds like a fair game.
