Achievement Unlocked: Full Redneck

The random beans my wife sprouted and then planted are thriving in the basically 2” of dirt we put in this bin. They’re likely packed in a little tight but this has been more an experiment than anything so I’ve just been letting them do theirs thing. I’d been thinking they were a bush bean up until a couple days ago when one popped out a vine. Fast forward to today and it’s trying to reach the ground, so I grabbed a ladder that doesn’t see a lot of use, and finished watering everything. Also put my basil cutting from several weeks ago in dirt as it’s actually made roots and new growth. Came back out just to take a look at things just now (approximately 3 hrs after the ladder and watering) and there’s a second vine, so adjustments were made.

Pretty awesome. Id love to have my own full garden

I wouldn’t call what we have a “full garden”, it’s just a collection of random containers, most of which I’ve scavenged from trash piles cause I’m a cheap bastard lol. We’ve got a decent assortment of plants and herbs, and actually managed a mostly ripe strawberry before the birds got it today. It’s better than nothing though, that’s for sure. The little 6x6 greenhouse we bought from Lidl is right nifty, it was only like $60.

This is kinda what we have going on. The greenhouse isn’t in the pic. Some of the containers have been moved around, onions and garlic added since this pic was taken. We’ve got cayenne, strawberries, potatoes, onions, (hopefully) garlic, lavender, basil, sage, marigold, calla Lilly, 5 kinds of okra (not doing too good), orange mint, chocolate mint, and rosemary, plus a red maple sprout I’m trying to make a bonsai and a bitternut hickory.

If you got any space at all, grab a plant a container and some dirt and grow it. If you’ve never grown anything, grab whatever variant of mint you think smells best and start with it, it’s hard to kill and is easy to propagate which gives you trade fodder or starter plants to sell.

Actually I did. I have a small place that I can plant and spearmint is tough so I have a bunch of it. Plus I found out rodents dont like mint so it will help keep them away from the other stuff I put there. Yours looks great so far.

Yuuuuusss. I had spearmint basically growing wild at my last house, gave some to a buddy who now has it growing wild at his house and my attempt to bring it with me to this house failed, so I gotta go get some cuttings from

Him soon lol
