I found this old ad for the Nintendo 64 from the 90s. This was the console I spent most of my childhood playing. Most video games today start out at $60. When I was a kid they started at $50. A $10 price increase isn’t much but the Nintendo switch console today costs about $300. So the Nintendo 64 console costed you the price of less than 3 games while the Nintendo switch console costs you the price of about 5 games. Video games have done pretty well to resist inflation.

What'd ya do with the console?

Still have it in my closet 😂

You should scroll through ebay when ya get the chance. Some people are quite generous with their offers. Especially if you have any games to bundle it with.

Oh yeah I’ve seen them but I’ve regretted selling my old games in the past and I want to keep these for the nostalgia

I harassed my mom for one and got one haha

Do you still have it? lol

I wish i did.

You can find one one OfferUp or eBay

Video games, like technology in general is deflationary 🤝

Yes gotta keep us distracted somehow 😭

Bread and N64 😂

People complain about how much games cost today (me included), but looking back, games are so cheap today. The SNES was my console, and I think games were about $60 when they released, some near $70, that's about $130 in today's dollars.

Yeah I was thinking about this. The only question I had was if they are actually complete games? Most games have DLC and require updates and maintenance. I think the fact that they can ship a game out and then patch it later if bugs pop up saves them a lot of money testing the game. They let the users test the game and then patch it quickly. It’s impressive how they’ve optimized this side of the business

I think the dev teams were much smaller then and they could turn around games faster, so cheaper to develop for, but you had a smaller pool of gamers to buy the game compared to now.

I think you're right though, they probably make up some of the difference with DLC, Season Passes, skins, etc.. Its definitely a different world.

Yeah I wonder how much cheaper it would be today without fiat

i still have mine

What color is yours? 👀

I have the standard, like the one in the picture but i have the see through purple controller

🙌🏼 my fav system… the Smash Bros was 🔥

It was my favorite too. I couldn’t be stopped in that game 🔥
