What are the chances nostr:npub1hcwcj72tlyk7thtyc8nq763vwrq5p2avnyeyrrlwxrzuvdl7j3usj4h9rq and Phoenix will resume operating in the United States sometime this year?

I hope that they do.

I’m still pissed off at how many waiters, bartenders, and Uber drivers got orange-pilled by someone they’ll never meet again using nostr:npub1hcwcj72tlyk7thtyc8nq763vwrq5p2avnyeyrrlwxrzuvdl7j3usj4h9rq who probably opened it again one day and saw the app didn’t work anymore and thought they had been scammed.

It still works for now though. I collect some dust from "satograms" every few months from it.

Scenario:

You’re a normie. Someone you encounter while you’re at work back in 2023 couldn’t stop talking about bitcoin, and they eventually convinced you to download some app you never heard of called Wallet of Satoshi. Then they sent you a dollar and went on their way. You never saw this person again. Now in 2025 you’re looking through your phone and you find the app and can’t remember what it is so you open it, and you see that instead of $1 it now says $3. But then, while you’re trying to figure out what to do with your new found wealth, you encounter this message, and decide that the app, and probably the whole concept of bitcoin is a scam.

It's been quite some time, but originally, you were only allowed to withdrawal. It just wouldn't let you receive. Is that no longer that case?

I have no idea since I haven’t used it since December 2023. I used a VPN to rescue sats for a few friends and family members. But again, in this scenario, you’re a normie bartender. What wallet do you transfer the 3000 sats to, with nobody around to give you any advice?

I was able to withdraw yesterday.

Awesome.

I'm hoping so. Great options for onboarding to #Bitcoin💡

Good question. I really hope they do.

I hope WoS doesn't give in to american kyc and remains a true bitcoin business.

They didn’t collect KYC and were afraid of being labeled an unlicensed money transmitter.

And thus governments get away with infringing upon our freedoms. Eagerness to comply with tyrants is not the hallmark of freedom...

"Comply so I can use your wallet"

- Bitcoiners now

🤣

KEEP SEEKING BITCOIN REGULATION AND USING KYC STRIKE THATS GIVING YOUR DATA TO GOVERNMENT JUST TO "BE LEGAL" THEN.

NO KYC IS A GOOD THING.

I literally can’t use Strike.

Me either. I get to KYC and know it's not a legitimate bitcoin business. Its a government data business.

I’m not even allowed to KYC on it. 😂

Bullish

If they become banks? Or no need for that.

Phoenix was never a bank.

Right! forgot about that. They were just super paranoid.

70/30 against

Depends whether the Paypal mafia invest there first or not.

PayPal ain’t building a Lightning wallet.

Probably not. But tongue in cheek, as soon as peter thiel gets a bag in a company, the company will get granted all the licenses and regulatory coverage.

Someone with a custodial wallet needs to return to the US, even it bows to KYC. For a newcomer in the US, it can be daunting to set up your first lightning wallet and get it funded. Custodial wallets make it as easy as Venmo. I am grateful for all the non-custodial options out there for techies and bitcoiners, but if Nostr is going to expand their user base, the grannies and the technophobes need a dead simple option.

What about coinos?

Good option not secure though possibly rug also depending where they live I say in America cash app for normies for a serious lightning wallet gotta go with strike

It's not KYC like Strike is. Just keep small amounts on Coinos or Strike. Coinos works great for zaps.

for sure don't get me wrong I like it alot just wouldn't put anything serious on it. yeah I agree with it as a zap wallet ! sick to be able to connect it to stacker news and also nostr

Oh yeah, I agree! Yes, I see you're using for zap wallet too. I just found it the other day and was very easy to set as a zap wallet.

30 ses set up longest part is choosing a name i favor it big time over muun for sure

Coinos is excellent, and I actually mentioned them yesterday in my introductory post where I made the same complaint about on-ramping. Not that I have anything against Canada, but it would be good to have a US version of their type of wallet available, to remove any lingering taint of the anti-crypto bottlenecks of the last few years.

Yes and works great in the US.

I hope they do, but I don’t know if they’d see the same uptake. If you’ve already left once I’m guessing people are just a little more reluctant to rely on it

Phoenix was just pulled from the app store. You can still install from GitHub. You never had to stop using it.
