Facts are just widely held opinions, that is one of my core beliefs.
Isn’t a fact an idea or vice or that’s fundamentally always true. ?
Auto corrupt got me.
*idea or concept that’s
what is truth?
The sky is blue
The climate has always changed
There are only two genders
9/11 was an inside job lol
the sky is blue because you are told it is, you can be told blues wave length and measure it
I guess the truth is only what we can perceive through our 5 senses. Everything else is just a guess.
Another one of my beliefs is that the Truth can neither be spoken or written. We cannot think the Truth, but we can feel it.
At best, a human can point to the Truth & this is usually seen through the expression of feeling (art, music, dance, stories, etc). Philosophy attempts to point to the Truth through words & I'm fascinated by this form of expression.
I love Alan Watts description of thinking which points to this Truth. He describes thinking as the manipulation of symbols.
Our ability to sense the realm we inhabit & then assemble symbols to describe them is flawed.
Facts can change & vary from person to person as well as between cultures.
I think it's more useful to view facts as opinions & so I maintain this belief.
My core belief is that beliefs should only be maintained while they continue to serve the believer. I've held it both of these beliefs for over 15 years.
Even if you take something as simple & unchallengeable as "The sky is blue", it raises questions like:
- what is 'sky' or what is 'blue'?
- what about on a cloudy day or at sunset/sunrise/night?
As an autist, I found it difficult to exist around humans who really don't care for the consistent & precise use of words. Adopting these beliefs helped me navigate their world without being triggered or compromising my own beliefs.
When someone says 'it's a fact' I hear 'it's your opinion' & store it in memory accordingly (or dismiss it altogether if I don't value their opinion).
My opinion is this fact, opinions are not facts
It is a fine line the difference between facts and undisprovable concepts.
With a given set of axioms, such as that the universe is intelligible, most things that are meaningful can be known.
