Zooming out though, many things are being introduced to the world these days as substrates that enable and protect human freedom and agency. I watched the ATProtocol conference yesterday; the devs there also genuinely see themselves as shoring up a substrate that enables and protects human freedom and agency, and they have their logic. (Bluesky is a client like Primal; ATProtocol as a bare bones protocol is very similar to Nostr, and MLS is also being integrated there, which means maybe MLS is a lower-level substrate?) And of course the Farcaster devs see their work as substrate-worthy too. End of the day it's about solving real day-to-day problems and creating real day-to-day joys, and letting the abstract narratives write themselves.
