There is 0 evidence that any of the students had firearms at all nevermind fired on law enforcement. No firearms were found on or near the dead or injured students.
Violence was initiated by the guard and police the night before when they tear gassed and beat unarmed protestors without even lying that they were attacked first.

There are numerous cases where civilians were killed where the guard were deployed, but which law enforcement agency killed them was never settled.
