What amethyst is doing is stupid. But stop complaining about it. Go build your own client. That’s the point of nostr.

Nostr is the place to build whatever you want!

Hi Jake

We can’t all be all things. The only reason human kind thrived to where we are today is due to specialization.

Telling people to create their own X is not helpful.

I’m not telling everyone to learn2code. But no matter what it is you do, you can use your skills/money/words to improve and advance clients that are more aligned with your vision.

Totally. I just wish “our” (team nostr) “flagship” android client would be less controversial in how it handles things.

What alternatives do we have? I want to support the most prolific builder and that seems to be Vitor by a long shot.

Not gonna die on this hill. Hopefully there is a better way to handle that situation and all is fixed in time. 🙏

> I want to support the most prolific builder

Why?

They are most likely to “win” the market share. Might as well add some lighter fluid to their fire 😂

If someone was quickly building a castle of shit and someone else was slowly building a castle with stone who would you support?

Devs that move slow tend to quit and abandon their projects before gaining any critical mass.

Im not saying I support only fast developers, but if I had to guess which projects will stick around it’s easier to do so looking at how much someone ships and how often.

Helpful rule of thumb.

Fair point

I do agree with your point about no first mover advantage, even if they did features don’t equal users all the time. UX matters a lot.

#[4] for Android would be amazing. I’d even get a backup device to help test it.

I think he is, isn't he?

Who? This wasn’t directed at anyone in particular

Tony, the guy that at least seems to have kicked this debate off, I don't know I haven't kept up with nostr much the last week or 2

I think there's more to it than that, cos it's the most popular and most recommended android app (just a small aside to reiterate that I don't think nostr is ready to be recommended to people, for the reasons like shadowbans and others). As Jack said, the biggest problem nostr faces is irrelevancy, and a casual user will take away from this that this is exemplary of the protocol, they won't care that it's a client issue, in their usage it's the same thing. Their takeaway will/may be that nostr replicates shadowbanning and censorship. I do take your point tho. I just think that it's probably not as easily solved as what you wrote suggests. First mover advantage and all that, it's the biggest client that will be a lot of people's first encounter with nostr... you get what i mean lol

I dont come around here that often... In January there was so much unfiltered singular feeds that the app was basically unproductive to any meane of direction. Now it seems like the place is dead and engagement is very low. Where is everyone? Private relays, I guess? I like to post the odd thought on here and yes I use Amethyst, but even with low engagement having your energy directed towards productively engaged users is a bit better for me than posting an essay and having it lost to time in three seconds in the wake of global chat tsunami's. So I dont know if I'm addressing the topic at hand. At least it doesn't stop showing my post when the algorithm thinks ok you have your opinion but we think enough people has seen it now. But a lot of it seems fairly clique-ish. I didn't get into BTC because we had very large access issues in Africa and a lot of the incentive is gone now outside hedging.

This is absolutely the correct take.
