Interesting for the Bitcoin crowd here might be the relationship between energy and its fundamental scarcity and the rootedness of Bitcoin and other PoW protocols in that reality. What Nate calls our "energy blindness" might be just another way of saying "fiat".

At our current rate of energy consumption, it would take the human race 3000 years to use the amount of energy that lands on earth from the sun in one single day.
We are not that important.
