Hey #plebchain and frens, I need a spot of Bitcoin advice 🙏

A coworker of mine has told me she wants to make a not-small allocation of her savings to Bitcoin. These will be her first sats, and she has asked for my advice and guidance to get started.

I can help walk her through all the technicals, along with choices around acquisition, storage, custody, privacy, etc.

Since she isn’t just “dabbling”, I feel a greater sense of responsibility to guide her well, and provide the right resources.

I’m looking for recommendations for:

• Articles/podcasts to help a beginner understand Bitcoin. Written form would be ideal here.

• General tutorials - more like “here’s an overview of how private keys and nodes work”, rather than specific tutorials in using particular applications or wallets.

• introduction to Bitcoin theory, to provide context, but a “mellow” exposure and not the more intense revolutionary stuff

• any other words of wisdom, experiences you’ve had, or things to avoid.

This is a first for me and I’d love to do it work.

One of the rules in self custody is to not put your coins in an environment that exceeds your own technical skills. If your friend did that then your friend would just lose their coins, and it would be your fault.

This is exactly what I was thinking. If that means starting custodial while she learns about wallets, okay (for a time). I had someone close to me say “Buy a ledger. Use it”. I was lucky to learn self-custody early. My coworker is also tech savvy enough to handle a HWW. But I want her to understand the vulnerability that comes with personal responsibility.
