Depends on what region you are in… and then, even in regions, folks cook things so, so different.

In my family, we dropped the turkey and sides a long time ago. Been thru a “let’s do a bushel of crabs and sides” moments, and lately have been in a “let’s just share meals and hop to different houses” moment.

As for why the gov likes sharing the costs… there’s likely a link between costs and consumer sentiment. Folks spend for food & family when things get tight, so the costs of a bigger meal might reflect towards other bits. Just guessing though… I’ve not looked into the data for a long while

That’s what I was thinking. There’s traditional but I bet that also gets boring. Crab boil for thanksgiving sounds wonderful though.
