It is just a thing that occurred naturally. Trying to see how resilient nostr and zaps were by posting memes and zapping one another.
Nostr kind of lights up during this time, it's alive, notes after note, and zaps after zap, and everything works so smoothly. (Well for me anyway)
I don't really know when it happens, i think sometimes someone just says, "shall we do a zapathon?" And it happens.

Awww, thanks man. I knew from the name, it had something to do with zapping others but I didn’t know the origin story or social norms around it. And I didn’t want people to think I was just playing to farm zaps, haha
