Is there a profession that youβd only want someone with a college degree to do the job?
Proof of work, and apprenticeship >>> credentials
Agree. I think there is a place for higher education, but todayβs college system is mostly a scam in my opinion

I have my degree in a math & science field. I feel it was a waste tbh. My entire career has required none of it other than the line on my resume and applications that say I have a degree
True. Sometimes there's no preparation for what's actually being done. Credentials are a form of proof of work but they may have been compromised by fiat incentives. If anything, your brain was activated in ways it may not have been otherwise. The effects may not be obvious though.
Perhaps the 80% focus should be on the practice and 20% on theory instead?
