I have also seen this. Anytime the subject of history comes up around Germans (who are the most amazing people btw), you can see the life get sucked out of their faces. They've been SO deeply indoctrinated to hate feel horrible about themselves and their history. It's heartbreaking, and once you learn the truth about said history, absolutely infuriating.
