going back to Wallet of Satoshi and Strike until further notice, Alby's UX leaves me incredibly confused

why didn’t you setup the new alby hub by now?
why couldn’t we convince you and tell you do do that. hasn’t it been discussed since more than a year?
I am really interested in your feedback and what we can do better.
it’s just that we no longer can provide that service for free and the focus is on the self-custodial NWC enabled lightning wallet.

I find the UI and UX of Alby Go just not polished enough. Also, the uncertainty for me that paying at least €20 for a channel from an LSP in AlbyHub and that it can be closed in 3 months is just a no go 🙅‍♂️ to be honest, since I just occasionally started zapping ⚡️and would buy 1 coffee per month through Lightning, I just don’t need huge liquidity. Strike also has Lightning Address (customised for free) and the UI is absolutely top notch 🚀
Yeah, strike is great. a very different product.
we focus on self-custody and also NWC to enable apps to integrate.
Strike does not do that.
As strike does the custody you don't need a lightning channel (but also don't own the sats ;))
I would actually argue that for some small amount of sats that are meant for actual spending and supporting BTC adoption, it’s an advantage not having to take care of custody yourself ;) as I said I am fully aware that it’s a different product targeting other uses. I personally don’t really see any advantage of NWC so far 🤷🏼‍♂️
for sure a valid thought and argument. And that's the great thing that building on open protocols brings things choice!
NWC with strike would be nice to one-click zap from within a nostr client for example without switching the app.
I understand your saying. Just FYI, AlbyHub + cashu gets experience until last year back for me. Since I have just switched, I don't yet know the details of what the SLA and fees will be, though.

You need to connect any NWC wallet to withdraw.
But it’s unrelated to the screenshot, error says you have legacy Alby account connected to the extension that has less features . To fix that you just need to add this account again to the extension.

Hm, have you touched this wallet since they moved away from the custodial model?
You may be able to get a seed phrase and then restore it elsewhere, but not sure if that exists on the custodial account. Worth a shot!

what’s confusing?
but if you still don’t have a hub you have to configure the wallet in your alby account. this is like this with many warnings since more then a year (which is ages in bitcoin and nostr development speed)

where inside the opening view of the extension does it say that all the zaps that i receive (up to 50,000 sats) can only be used as fee tokens paying for alby's services
up until yesterday, the people zapping me their hard-earned zaps are just burning them, switched out my wallet to strike after that.
it just guides me from one link to another, whilst the only thing i want to do is get my sats out of the alby account
I created an alby account as a test.
At no point did it tell me when creating or linking to my browser extension that all sats I would use would become credits to open channels and not be usable as LN funds
you received many many emails about this. it has been discussed widely here on nostr.
the official shutdown was at the beginning of this year.
please read the guides.
connect a wallet and be done with it.
if you would do what that message says. it would then also show you all that information.
and that warning that you posted there is there also way longer than one year.
I am sorry, that you have to read and do things, but we somehow have to iterate and improve the products and services.

what’s the problem?
in the extension:
connect a new wallet and either use the alby account or a NWC connection directly.
then make sure this new wallet in the extension has your nostr key.
once everything works: remove the old lndhub connection - which is deprecated.
this deprecation message is shown since way more than a year.
