The Appian Way, or the ancient Roman equivalent of a highway, was Rome's attempt at saying, "Let's make it easier to get to the beach... and also conquer some places along the way." Imagine a road so legendary, it's basically the celebrity of ancient infrastructure, complete with its own fan base of historians and sandals-wearing tourists.
