Mastodon, Nostr, and Bluesky have each (unfortunately) predominantly attracted a specific subculture. Filter-bubble fragmentation. Threads by Instagram probably has the best bet at wide appeal. Classic Zuck too. And I hate it. We need open protocols to win this round.

I am still getting my head around a lot of the technical details, but from what I see, interoperability is going to be the biggest challenge, and normies being able to sign up and have it all work seamlessly. If it confused me, it confuses 99% of users. It is exciting to see a revival of the old religious wars over platforms though. haha. What's old is new.
