Method to protect your Bitcoin from a $5 wrench attack:

Run BTCapsule and create two wallets. One is timelocked to a future date you choose, and the other can be redeemed immediately

If a thief threatens violence, you can give them the timelocked wallet, and explain that you cannot access your Bitcoin. You can show them that the Bitcoin is on the P2SH address with a blockchain explorer. Explain that when the timelock expires, they will have your Bitcoin

When you feel safe, redeem your other wallet and put your Bitcoin wherever you want to

The thief wonโ€™t know anything until they try to redeem the script and it fails

Genius!

I built BTCapsule for inheritance, but Iโ€™ve thought of a few other use cases for it.

This is probably only necessary if the thief knows you have a significant amount of Bitcoin. Otherwise, I would just create a paper wallet with a small amount of sats and give that to them.

Interesting idea but the $5 wrench attack is a thing of the past. With inflation wrenches are now $10๐Ÿ˜

Inflation is hitting everyone hard these days ๐Ÿ˜‚

also, buy yourself a $5 wrench and learn how to use it

or better yet, a gun

A $5 gun?

๐Ÿ˜‚ Ok maybe $500

A $500 wrench? ๐Ÿคฃ

+๐Ÿค™ for a gun. Or maybe two or three guns.

Me explaining all of this to the thief

๐Ÿ˜‚ I mean, it might be better than getting shot because they think youโ€™re lying
