The potato beetles found my potato plants. The plants look so good and I won’t let them destroy them.

I realized it early, about 2-3 nests already hatched the rest was still in the eggs. Not this time. πŸͺ²πŸ™„πŸ˜πŸ₯” #gardening #potatobeetles

Aww they look beautiful! Where will you put them?

Under a stone with much pressure πŸͺ¨ (we are no friends) πŸ˜πŸ˜‚ they lay their eggs on the plants and the larvaes will eat the plant until it’s gone πŸ‘€

Nooooo greensoul Franny crushes nice beetles? 😭😭😭 I don't know what so say.... so sad

Them or my potatoes 😀 but I feel bad. πŸ₯Ί

Well gotta have potatoes πŸ€” Maybe release them in someone else's potatoes? πŸ˜€

Don't feel bad. Not at all.

You will have so many potatoes. Might as well make your own vodka!

Are you going to feed zw bugs to ze chickens?

I didn’t thought of it damn πŸ€”

Learning to make your own alcohol is useful for many, many things, especially if you want to make your own herbal stuff.

Olive oil can be another component except alcohol in some cases.

Olive tree is also on my grow list πŸ«’ they grow well in your country right? I would need to get them inside for winter

Do you know how many you would need to make 1L of olive oil ? It feels like you would need many

Yes they grow well in my country but not well enough in my area. So i don't really know the answer to this question, but i am sure you need to have quite a few trees to make it matter. I have a few olive trees but not for oil, just to eat the olives and these trees are a different variety than these for oil production. The reason is that my area is colder than the average greek territory. Also we don't have oranges and lemons here for the same reason, in contrast with other areas. So... my opinion is try to plant whatever is suitable in your area and doesn't need much effort to grow. If you do want something badly enough and you are in the mood to make the effort and you don't need many trees to have a satisfying result, then you can try something. But you already have lemons (i suspect it was lime) in your greenhouse... See what i mean? I think you should focus on what is suitable for your area, but that's my opinion.

Long vigreux column, 190 proof out of the first run!

You may also cut the flowers. That will result more potatoes, since the plant will not feed the flowers. Maybe you knew that already...

Thought they’re important in the process πŸ₯”πŸŒΌ

No they are not, since we use potatoes for new plants and not the seeds. Something similar with strawberries...

You CAN grow potatoes from seed.

The potato plants grown from lil' "seed" potatoes are clones. If you're saving and planting your own potatoes year after year it's possible the plants could start to decline in quality.

Saving actual seeds and growing entirely new plants from time to time is a good practice if you're providing your own stock.

Yes that's perfectly right.

Planting seeds from hybrids will result in some plants that are like the parent plants and some that have a combination of traits. All will still be edible potatoes :) Save some of the ones you like to plant next time.

I don't agree on this one partly. They will be edible potatoes and all of that, yes, but the production would be very low and after three years, if you keep growing from the seeds, they will start to have normal production (meaning less production than the hybrids). So in conclusion, you need at least 3 years to have plants like the parent plants

Mono cropping too hard

On this place there wasn’t planted anything in 10 years

I just meant diversify a bit, have some other plants planted in between each potato, itll help against bugs and disease

You have no right to kill these bugs! It's genocide. The potatoes don't belong to you, they are the creation of nature. You'd better eat steaks.
