Is there a big European presence on Nostr yet? Curious if people are discovering it as a censorship-free alternative given the crackdowns and threats.

European here. Left Twitter pre-Elon due to the unbearable censorship.
Have been here for more than a year. Have managed to bring over a grand total of ZERO friends and family members. They simply do not care.
Exactly the same story with other pieces of freedom tech like SimpleX vs Whatsapp, Protonmail vs. Gmail, Linux vs. Windows, etc.
Even with the Covid debacle and whatnot, these past three or four years I have only been successful to bring two or three people into Bitcoin, and half a dozen into guns. That's my whole balance.
Yeah, that's a bummer. I remain convinced that one key to success for Nostr will be somehow cultivating a reputation as a place for dissident speech. Network effects are hard to overcome, though!
European here. I still have twitter but trying to do whatever I can to show people what alternatives are out there. If the uk regime keep pushing then I think the momentum towards nostr could grow.
For sure. I think between UK madness, EU overreach, and whatever's going to unfold in the lead-up to the 2024 US election, there's a lot of potential for major shifts in the social media landscape soon.

German here, havn't heard of Nostr outside of a Bitcoin context here. But a few influential accounts have switched entirely from X to Nostr.
