Depends on what your motivation is for getting into meditation.
Are you seeking to calm your mind, and learn to be still in the chaos of life?
Are you seeking awakening to a non-dual nature of reality and merging into universal consciousness?
Maybe somewhere in between.
Ideally, life is your meditation.... 24/7/365. I wish mine was 😂
We all start where we are and each day become more aware of patterns of the breath and the mind. Thoughts float on the breath, so if you steady your breath, you can calm the mind. The gap between each breath is where the stillness/meditative experience lies. So to meditate, you want to ultimately be resting your awareness in that gap... Throughout the chaos of life.
Breath work is a good place to start.
I recommend starting with 3-9 minutes a day of sitting or walking in silence (no ear pods or VR goggles)...., watching your breath and observing the conversation that arises when you try to move towards silence.
With practice , less thoughts will arise, and you will experience more stillness.
Then you extend the practice time a few more minutes... Until it's quite natural to rest in the gap.
Then you take the show on the road (off your meditation cushion) and practice in your life.
Some people use movement and breath (yoga) to train the mind to meditate ... It depends on each individual.
