I guess my main confusion is how a group of people with literal piles of metal in their backyard can call digital money a “pet rock”.

Especially when in the largest money printing era their shiny yellow seems to move like a Pet Rock

I think the term they're looking for is tamagotchi. at least that thing is digital.
