Why this is important: in damus, the purple icon next to peoples name is supposed to protect against impersonation, nip05 or not. If you follow people who start impersonating then that icon is no longer useful. This is why it’s pretty important to unfollow people who impersonate people. This is why I have a zero tolerance policy for people I follow who do this, the icon means nothing otherwise. nostr:note16jygc35upvss4lrmy7w4yvkv2utzewqemhszc4ptffxatn3scapsg6vme9

I’m still Alice.
Probably.

Hahaha all you fools are in trouble with Will now…suckers 😂
2 things
1 - are you the real Will?
2 - hope your zero tolerance includes room for a bit of play 🫂
Also, hopefully this can be regarded as a good-natured test of the limitations of verification. No plebs were harmed in the making of this film 🫡
Am I the only one who checks the banner/note history before ⚡️ing while the identify theft runs rampant?
No I do as well
Smart! I will start doing this lol
I am one of the victim of this experiment, it was scary 🙃
Was it now? We needed it too? What happened to the lightning arguments? Fishing expedition to find an out as if the whacking and plotting headache is justified because of the need of people we stole from?
Off you go.

The purple icon just proves someone has done a verification. Damus then shows the domain, but not the username @ domain. Instead Damus shows the chosen username, which I appreciate because it lets me use the bitcoin B where nip-05 doesn’t allow that character.
I think you should go back to showing the username@domain under the profile user name even tho it seems a bit more cluttered, otherwise it allows someone to verify at the same verification platform, and then impersonate.
Can someone send a screenshot of Wills profile on Damus? I'm curious.
On Amethyst there's a follow check mark on the user's profile picture that helps me because if I get messaged by a fake account and I know it's someone I follow I know immediately it's not them. I like the check mark in the nip-05 field because that lets me know they are affiliated/verified with that domain (if it's a personal domain.) It's less meaningful and effective with the pay to identify sites.

How do you get the purple icon?
This was good for a laugh. Thnx for all involved. Legitimate & illegitimate.
I don't know of a solution other than making the nip5 username part of the display name to make it more obvious to people.
How does one get a purple icon?
