I know of nothing else RPC typically abbreviates, and I still needed this clarification, absurd as it is.

RPC is Remote Procedure Call

A way for external applications to connect to the node

Yep, I still thought you must have been abbreviating something else; a remote procedure call stack shouldn't be nearly that greedy for resources!
