Cuba's so-called "Special Period" is a good example of what might happen. Caloric intake drops. Every scrap of arable dirt is repurposed to grow crops. Doctors and lawyers switch to farming, because it pays more. Backyard chickens become more of a fixture in households.

what concerns me is that most of America's population is urban. Apartment dwellers will be in trouble. Suburban households have a better chance with their fenced yards.
