I copy the note ID, type out my note & on a new line stick an @ symbol and then paste in the note ID.
Each client will render this slightly differently, but it seems pretty solid:

FWIW, Nostrgram does the work for you - like twatter. Just have to hit the quote icon. As #[2] mentioned, each client will render in its own way.
I think quote noting under an existing note is problematic in Amethyst.
The rendered results are unexpected for me 😂
I'm glad they look ok in your client though.
