Replying to Avatar We Distribute

The Funkwhale music platform is alive and in active development, and they're working on a feature to filter far-right artists off the network. Some #Fediverse self-hosters are divided on letting a third party decide what should be allowed in their library.

Why not just allow the option to filter instead of hardcoding it? You know, like every other piece of ActivityPub software already does....

They could even turn it on by default. They could allow auto blocking domains that do allow those tags. So many better ways to approach it than force it on users, even if I agree with the mission behind it.

We actually proposed something along those lines at the end of the article, but the dev's current behavior towards making it a configurable thing is a combination of "but that's not radical enough" and "I don't want to do extra work."
