I saw on my notification feed in real time this fake account start to build itself by trying to replicate my event feed.
It felt like watching a raccoon dig into a trash can or something.
Nostr's social graph and web of trust helps take care of that, but users need to be aware of fakeries, and clients can help users by providing visual cues regarding clear fakery.

So much effort to target the most badass cypherpunk community of folks...risk vs reward seems pretty low trying to scam on Nostr.

I noticed and reported it. At first glance it was tricky to tell but ultimately was spotted.
So sad to see this happening here too. People need to work on their spiritual health.

Scammers really seem to stand out over here but I was again reminded by the bait & switch npub threat.
The fake npub stood out primarily because I didn't follow it.
If I were a scammer, I'd come in to nostr attempting to build a following. I'd then update my profile to a trusted & respected person before targeting my followers. I may even chose to sleep on this burner npub waiting for nostr to gain in popularity.
Right now it's hard to identify this kind of attack.

What about newcomers (non-famous)? They slowly build trust over time as they engage with the community?
Social Graph - Follows / Followers
Web of Trust - different for everyone. It’s a viewable score that’s based of the account you are viewing. It takes into account your mutual friends and interactions and gives a score to their validity. More to it but that’s a decent summary.
