You don’t get though that hundred of years of groups of people being oppressed has made them not BE in these areas before. People act like so butt hurt because other people are trying to think of ways to create equity, whether it’s always the BEST solution for everyone…it’s so weird that people come up with all these technologies and concepts but just refuse to wrap their heads around the context of the historically oppressed. We’re still no where near the level of control conservatism has had for the longest time. But if ‘white straight cis’ guys etc are happy with this particular aspect then great. In my experience, people who differ from that are not always given respect or a voice in previous workplaces. One person’s experience of ‘the system’ is not the same always as someone else’s

The only way to move forward is a strict meritocracy. That’s it. The history is much messier than just one group had this and another had that. You cannot control for that. Merit based systems are the only answer.
How do you know most cases they aren’t doing that, and if they hire someone of different race etc it’s NOT merit based? 🙃 But some people have had better opportunities eg if you look at statistics as accurate as possible across different organisations to show disparities of wealth, education it shows disparities of opportunities still. Likely due to repercussions of oppression, just try to explain this image by Forbes….and I know people would in answer just say they don’t believe media etc etc but come in just think about if my for a moment, the percentage of very wealthy people you’d know of compared to other races it makes sense. Just look at this startling difference. And it’s about breaking stereotypes too and for example allowing people to get into industries where they may not have been before. It’s about representation. I for one as a woman have gad some extremely uncomfortable situations in previous workplaces which thankfully I don’t have to deal with now, literal assault twice, which I believe most men would be unlikely to deal with once in their lives so there’s that kinda thing you have to deal with over and over. Some people just don’t get it
Fucks sake so many typos but I’m just passionately wanting people to be more mindful about these things
Lots of this disparity was from governments programs meant to keep groups under their definition of control. You can only move forward with a meritocracy. There is no centrally planned benefit system that will ever work.
Which groups though? Maybe I should have tried to find statistics more representative of global wealth but surely if attempting to control oppressed groups still would be better to allow equity? Everyone’s so gosh darn obsessed with being controlled but quick to forget control of women for example, who were never allowed to vote, ‘owned’ essentially by husbands and exploited, black people as slaves, people in other colonised nations brutally abused and murdered. Don’t forget some of these groups of people still haven’t been in education as long, haven’t been allowed to DO some job roles as long..I just think it’s better for people who have historically not been horrifically oppressed to try empathising with that and see there needs to be work somehow to allow people to get to an equivalent level of freedom as ones who have ALWAYS had it. I honestly think human evolution works more productively the more empathic we are. No one is going to take ALL jobs away from white men for example.
Have a read of this for example. And see what I mean. There are likely reasons stemming from oppression as to why women are not more frequently represented in governments globally and people can dismiss statistics if they don’t agree with the idea but sometimes statistics are surely accurate and reviewed by many different independent organisations https://www.unwomen.org/en/what-we-do/leadership-and-political-participation/facts-and-figures
I’m not arguing that history isn’t awful, but it happened. I’m not claiming that white men will have no jobs. I’m not claiming to be a victim. I’m stating the reality of corporate America today and how sick it is; even if initially well intentioned. Meritocracy is the only appropriate system, and that is it.
But why though, why is it ‘sick’?? It was sicker before, people are trying to rectify the worse sickness that came before. I don’t believe that most people with the best intentions are not trying to take away anyone’s freedoms, just perhaps five a head start to people in some situations who have been lacking in equity and opportunity. I’m glad you agree with the points I make but it seems to be completely contradictory if you get that to then say it’s all sick
I mean I *don’t believe that most people are trying to take away freedoms lol of course!!
I do not agree with the points you are making, and it’s way too long of a conversation to have on Nostr, but dividing people up by the color of the skin, gender, sexual proclivities, etc is as sick now as it was then.
We’re not all the same and we don’t all have the same experiences. It’s not just what you want, or what white cos straight men want either. It’s about what everyone wants
And I meant you agree with me making the point to say history was awful. Actually horrific beyond anything you or I could comprehend most likely, not just awful
That to me is sick. Rape, murder, mutilation. Enslavement. REAL financial enslavement. That’s sick. The rest of it is that people think is taking away ‘freedoms’ is sometimes just a bit pathetic to be honest
People could of course ‘man up’ about it or something that right wingers think men should do 🤔
It’s about a merit based system. What people “want” varies wildly from person to person.
Exactly, so no it’s it just about what white men want. How do you even know it’s not a merit based system and that some people’s opinions just aren’t that interesting so they blame a non merit based system?
