Spam attack on #Bitchat right now. I just got finished implementing proof-of-work style spam protection on https://bitchat.land which is compatible with the experimental Android release.
To turn it on just go to Settings.

Proof of work is the best spam deterrent 💯
"Spam" doesn't have to be a bad thing.
It could be positive. Ie: walking down the mall and get a coupon code ...
The business could be incentivized to act as a hop to the internet because that wouldn't turn incentivize people to not block their spam.
The spam we experience on #Bitchat is 100 messages per second like ";;;;;;;;;;;;;;". That is a bad thing, with PoW thats mostly fixed or at least its limited.
