Books aren't scary. They are just not ADHD friendly. If I sit to read I might get overfixated and finish it in one go, or I might go to put some music or something to listen to in the mean time and never come back. If I over fixate but not get to finish it, as soon as I have to stop to cook or something I'm not picking it back again. That is why I liked the svalte tutorial. It was very well done for me
