Mandatory KYC measures do suck... But we take the good from the bad, and deal with what we can control.
As for the paid services, it's a small price when you consider the time and effort that goes into constantly developing these applications; in reality, it's to be expected.
Lots of battles ahead (never-ending, really), so prepare mind, body, and spirit -- and don't let these circumstances get the best of us!
