Framework, System76 or Lenovo Thinkpad. X1 Carbon
Tuxedo computers also makes linux compatible notebooks
Framework
Or a Macbook Pro M1/M2 running Asahi Linux - https://asahilinux.org/
I really want to give Asahi a try, but not on my Only Machine lmao
And Framework looks amazing!!
Have had good luck with Lenovo Think Pad. I'd buy another one.
refurbished Thinkpad from Amazon - under $300
I think it's kind of a battle between the German Tuxedo, 'merica System76, or the venerable Thinkpad P or T series. Really which ever one you can jam 64 GB + of RAM, few TB of memory, and while having a discreet graphics card sounds fun, using an integrated GPU/CPU means you might havea lasting battery charge. Also OLED might be beautiful, but again battery life might make more sense.
I have been very happy using a 2020 dell XPS 13 with ubuntu. It's pretty fast and sleak, is way waaaay smaller and lighter than my 2013 macbook pro 13".
I would argue the only downside is that battery life is a little less than the old macbook.
Also, everything worked out of the box, including things like the fingerprint reader and the webcam and most importantly: the trackpad is actually usable and nice like on a macbook, not complete rubbish like every other non-mac i ever owned.
ThinkPad X or X1 is the way.
I've being enjoying Pop! OS for a few years now and the optional tilling windows are s bliss for development especially with the up and coming Cosmic DE I think it can be a good first choice when you wanna dip your toes in Linux.
or you can go full on minimalism and just use Arch btw 😜
