Let’s try this again… #AskNostr — question for the audio experts/engineers/autists out there: what are your thoughts on something like the TASCAM DR-40X 4-Track Portable Handheld Field Recorder vs something like the RODE Wireless PRO? Or

If you have alternate suggestions I am extremely open to them as well.

I’ll be in El Salvador for Plan B at the end of January, and I want to make sure I have a solid setup for some impromptu backstage recordings.

Love Tascam. Haven’t used their field recorders but they’re a quality brand

I have the rode wireless pro setup, two mics and a receiver. Use it all the time for video interviews from a filmmaking standpoint. It’s fantastic for the price and a great run-and-gun option. TASCAM is probably better overall professional wise, but I’ve never used it in my workflow.

Love the Tascam. Used them as industry standard in broadcasting. Just picked up a new one for my podcast. They’re solid. No Bluetooth or USB-C so you’ll want an old school headphone adapter. Not rechargeable either, but they last for hours and hours depending on your settings. They’re so good, a friend used to use one for voiceover work. It also doubles as an interface. Old school professionalism.

Had Zoom in the past and I’d want to try TASCAM wrt quality, but the Zoom H6 and TASCAM Portacapture X6 etc look amazing.

Onboard mic = you’ll want a remote if you use any onboard features during recording, new Bluetooth App sounds much better than wired, but battery life would

suffer I guess

This is a decent option where you can plug in good mics. Works on-the-go and also at your desktop location.
