My dad keeps talking about the lottery and it’s bugging me so we did some calculations. 5 years of buying lottery tickets every weekend is like $1500.

Profit from a 5 year lottery “investment”

= 0$

You’re better off throwing your money in the garbage because at least that would save you on gas.

Say you put that 1500$ into bitcoin. Using Greg foss’s estimate of $2M a coin, that’s a 66x from its current price.

$1500 x 66 = $100,000

I know I’m preaching to the choir but I’m so tired of hearing about the lottery. 😭

Explain to him that a lottery is essentially a tax on the poor in a society………

Tell him it preys on hopelessness or addiction……….

Telling him a better ROI like #Bitcoin won’t convince him……….

Getting someone mad that it is a tax on the poor instituted by local bodies to cover their deficits may convince him.

That is true I didn’t think about that angle. I orange pilled him and he is buying bitcoin so he gets it to a certain extent. Still fiat has a hold on people though.

maybe he buys the lottery because it gives him something to look forward to, even if it is false hope.

it points to something lacking in his life that makes him feel unfulfilled.

people who buy the lottery are not dumb, they're desperate to fill a hole in their life and they think a large sum of money can do it.
