The dream for me is to get an internet connection without needing to rely on an ISP, even if it costs a lot more.

Is that even possible? If so, are there tutorials?

Hmm, I think the closest you can get to this is by joining a public mesh network like "Freifunk" in Germany (I bet there are similar projects worldwide)
