Aren’t wallets like Breez or Phoenix self custodial LN? Or am I missing it?

Phoenix is but there are trade offs like if they go away you have to wait to close the channels and get the funds back.
yes they are... my (unpopular) take is that real good UX can only be achieved by custodial solutions with they in charge of channels and main net to lightning mumbo jumbo
