There's plenty of dumb tribalism from Apple users, as well. You're sorta playing in to your own stereotype by pretending that this is a uniquely Android phenomenon.

I’ve never seen an Apple user here shouting to ditch your android device… all devices with Bluetooth transmit to beacons everywhere you go but you don’t see android boys talking about that. Do I shout at them for their ignorance? No.

Why do you get so riled up if someone tells an iphone user to make a better choice?

Go ahead shout at grapheneOS users for their sucky UX.

its so so hard 🤭

Wow, that's awful.

ikr? its like living in the 3rd world

Aren't you shouting at them for their ignorance now? I think what you missing is that Apple people express their arrogant tribalism in a different way as Android people. It's a different culture, and a different way of expressing idiotic contempt. You seem to be honing in on one while giving the other a pass, which itself is an example of hypocrisy.

There’s nothing to give a pass to because Apple users generally don’t act in this childish way. If they did, we could dish out criticism both ways. I’m pointing out the ignorance and hypocrisy of so called Bitcoiners here. Do this, but only my way!

Well, I think you're wrong in your founding assumptions, but that's OK. I'm just happy to be here!

What founding assumptions?

Your assumptions that Android people are basically these arrogant trolls who spend all day ridiculing Apple people and trying to get them to switch, while Apple people are cherubic saints who just sit quietly in the corner doing wondrous things with their Apple devices. I reject that perspective, and find it to be objectively wrong. Apple people can be just as arrogant and obnoxious in their tribal celebration of their devices and themselves for choosing those devices. You have no problem seeing the faults in one while being unable to see equivalent arrogance and obnoxiousness in the other. And I disagree with that.

They are not assumptions. It’s happening here every day.

They are assumption. They're ideas that assume are true based on your firsthand experience and functional biases. It is not objective truth because some of those biases have led you to ignore the behavior and actions of the Apple people while making the behavior and actions of the Android people sharp and distinct. My point is only that you're ignoring half of the story, and at this point denying that that half of the story even exists.

This is some mental gymnastics. Bully turned victim. Wow. Nothing I say will be met with any coherent response…

I'm not a bully and I don't think you are either. I just don't agree with your perspective on this. It's no big deal. 🤷‍♂️

As someone whose been a lifelong apple user (unfortunately even up to now), I also own an android device, and for years I did ridicule my friends like most apple users at the time did for being android users because Apple was the better product in the past but now the android ecosystem has drastically developed and is a far better experience generally than Apple.

Steve Jobs dying caused apple to suck.

And yes, apple users were obnoxious first, now Android users (rightfully so) are counter bullying apple users because Apple is complacent technology like Windows.

I suspect a lot of “this is better than that “ is just subjective preference stemming from muscle memory. There are too many aspects to an operating system and device to generalize. Some things are better done here and some better there. Everyone has different aspects of the os they use more and some functionality may suite their needs better despite clearer UI.

Apple has the better UI (technically) but it's a dumbed down walled garden that assumes we're all stupid toddlers, whereas android is more open, let's you be more custom with everything, it doesn't assume you're a dumb toddler.

That's my analysis, also I prefer Android's Navigation Bar over over Apple's Multitask but I like Apple's physical home button the most.

Apples to Oranges, maybe Apple is still king but I've changed my mind on this topic over the years.

More is not always better. Apple clearly prioritizes simplicity over choice. People who care about having total control over their UI would find this a negative but to Apple this is a feature. They played it up as a strength as far back as making fun of PCs days. But, I wonder if either side is even aware of the progress that has been made and the improvements … or is just stuck defending their past experience - which may not be representative of the current state of things 🤔

Anyway, I find this whole debate stale. People will disagree for ages and that’s why they have options to choose from. I just find it really stupid when people tie their identity to brands instead of treating tech as tools. Whatever tool works best for you - use it. And you’re not limited to one tool… you can always have multiple.

I agree, I try to utilize as many technologies as possible.

However, like anyone else, I do have preferences.

Curious what subset of iOS users you're running into that don't. The number one reason I hear younger people insisting on iPhones is the dread of being "that one with the green bubbles." That, or "I can't figure out how to do things on Android." The former is admittedly more the under 25 crowd, the latter skews older but is always deeply unsettling when I hear it from someone in their mid-30s.

Here? No...we tend to like to tinker with things here. And not get told what software our devices can and can't run.

I think the first thing I would do if given an iPhone and told I couldn't sell it would be to work on making it run GrapheneOS. Definitely had an iPod photo that ran Linux (and Doom!) back in 2005 or so.

The only real case I've ever seen for iPhones has been the security one -- where they're marginally superior BECAUSE they don't run code. Sort of like how Bitcoin script > shitcoin scripts because it is less functional, and thus, less insecure. That's fine for a LIMITED use case product, but unless I'm gonna carry multiple phones or just not use my phone to do much, that's sort of a non-starter for me.

And while I could jailbreak...that breaks that one benefit, leaves me with a device that costs just as much as the higher end Android devices, and leaves me with a smaller base of available software to run.

So, while I'll admit the case is there for some people to want to use it (without it JUST being about "pretty logo" or "status symbol" -- which I'll absolutely make fun of people for choosing a $1000 device based on), I'm REALLY not surprised that most of those people aren't here.
