Did you guys hear about compulsory payment to National Television Network ORF in #Austria ? I got a bill of 153 of european shitcoin.

In the past it was charged pro television set in a household and was collected by a clerk going door to door.

As these clerks have been verbally abused(clearly), denied the payment and also due to increasing amount of households that don't posses a tv set the clownstate managed to make it compulsory by law, independent from existence of a tv set in the household.

As I understand it, it's for watching any sort of 'live broadcast' but I don't know what would be arguable in court. I didn't used to get one as I only watched YT etc, not any terrestrial stations.

Not just live broadcast... Any access to BBC iplayer now also counts as TV licence.

Still on demand. "inspectors" still go door to door trying to see if you are watching live TV 😂

In the past it was the same way in Austria, and the collector GIS was basically not a state’s authority. From 2024 here they put it into law and you just get the bill per post.

In the UK it's one of the few things you can go to prison for... Unpaid TV license. Shocking

Now they're supposed to be integrating it in the taxes, so they're not supposed to do these "window checks" to see if you have a TV.

I avoided many doorbell ringers from the GIS over the years

But it’s not integrated in taxes, right ? Neither income tax nor added value but a separate charge.. cause i wouldn’t care if they redirect money from other budget (say education 🤣) but it’s an additional charge. I’m just wondering how can such thing be a law in the first place

Sure I avoided these fucks at the door for a decade as well, but i’m mind blown that they can legally force me to pay for national propaganda production. Also the way they handle private data is way concerning
