my main point - many of us have already many stuff or dont even 70% of service - just even know/use it - it can serve perfect backup or main as image/video library
I donβt like to have all my private data on other servers.
In the future I will try the LTO (magnetic band) to arhive my stuff.
And of course, Iβm not paying Apple cloud , music , or Netflix and other platforms -> all my π° is going to BTC instead
I was just looking into synologys.
This one with the 5 bay or 923+ with 4 bays.
would love to know if the noise is silent/bearable/loud with this badboy 5 bay.
The synology itself is silent. The noise will depend on the drives you get.
Decide how much storage you want first. Take that number and double it. That's how much you should prob get cause it goes much faster than you'd expect. That'll dictate what size drives you need. Decide how many bays you need considering the noise you can tolerate. Generally bigger drives gonna be much louder under load.
I was thinking of going with the stock synology HDD drives.

sure good idea - also check specs of interface SATA3 etc - so u can easily expand disk by disk
