The old adage “if you build it, they will come” does not work anymore.

People are too distracted, and there are simply two many options for them to choose from in literally every area of their lives. You need to remind people that awesome shit EXISTS, or they will never know or care. You have to repeatedly tell them about Nostr, and do so on centralized platforms where they go every single day.

Yes, yes, I know what you’ll say “ALL OF US WHO WERE ON NOSTR ALREADY DIDNT NEED TO BE SPOON FED!! WE ARE DIFFERENT!! WE FOUND NOSTR FOR OURSELVES!!”

But actually, you’re NOT different. Most of you DID need to be spoon fed. Most of you joined after nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m or nostr:npub1sn0wdenkukak0d9dfczzeacvhkrgz92ak56egt7vdgzn8pv2wfqqhrjdv9 posted on Twitter about Nostr. Personally, I joined Nostr before Jack and Snowden, but ONLY because nostr:npub1xtscya34g58tk0z605fvr788k263gsu6cy9x0mhnm87echrgufzsevkk5s posted about the nostr:npub18m76awca3y37hkvuneavuw6pjj4525fw90necxmadrvjg0sdy6qsngq955 Beta version on Twitter… the first time I heard about Nostr was the summer of 2022 when I randomly read about it on fiatjaf’s github. Thought it was neat, but I ignored it until I read about it AGAIN on Twitter thanks to Will.

It takes multiple touch points to get people over to Nostr, and like it or not, every person here was once a potential user of Nostr who was converted to an actual user of Nostr thanks to a post on a centralized social media platform.

This is why I talk about Nostr on X. This is why I talk with almost all of my guests on nostr:npub10qrssqjsydd38j8mv7h27dq0ynpns3djgu88mhr7cr2qcqrgyezspkxqj8 about Nostr.

And guess what? It works.

In the last few days alone, I’ve had a bunch of people let me know they decided to try out Nostr because they saw my posts on X or heard me and nostr:npub1s05p3ha7en49dv8429tkk07nnfa9pcwczkf5x5qrdraqshxdje9sq6eyhe or nostr:npub1a2cww4kn9wqte4ry70vyfwqyqvpswksna27rtxd8vty6c74era8sdcw83a talk about Nostr during our nostr:npub10qrssqjsydd38j8mv7h27dq0ynpns3djgu88mhr7cr2qcqrgyezspkxqj8 episodes.

The point is, centralized social media platforms are still the top of the funnel to #grownostr

That’s a good thing, not a bad thing. Disillusioned centralized platform users are low hanging fruit.
