It's said that certain smells bring up a nostalgic experience. To me it is the inverse. Nostalgic experiences bring up smells.

I swear I can smell a certain winter hometown scent when I open the old blue Pascal editor. ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Smells are the cryptographic pointers to memories .. we lost this sense mostly ... Dogs didn't

Every memory has a unique smell .. you can get to them from either side .. either smell can evoke the memory or memory can evoke the smell ..

Interesting take. Why cryptographic?

Cryptographic only means that you can't guess one key from another .. means you can't know smell to memory relationship if you have only one .. plus the elliptical curve is different for every human ( actually every animal) ..

Crypto need not be a mathematical algo !

I just assume that cryptographic includes encryption and I don't think there is one when it comes to brain and associative memories? I might be wrong of course

You are going with Computer science definition .. the word existed long before CS :-) ..

Cryptic only means hard to decipher .. not impossible .. given enough time and effort, any cryptic message can be understood..

you have rare text editor synesthesia

Pascal editor is the gateway drug hahay my school years we fun!

I have both. Certain smells trigger memories, but the sound of a Zippo lighter brings back memories of smells, sights, and sounds from my childhood.
