Going to break my radio silence this evening to share a concern I got while trying to purple pill a classmate recently.

I've seen tons of progress in trying to help midigate porn/spam on nostr but haven't seen anything about hiding flashy gifs that could trigger epileptic seizures. While it might be niche issue, I was wondering if any clients have a solution for this or if the content should simply be reported

nostr.wine does I believe

Give it up for GenZ Nostriches again! 🙌🏾

I do know this was talked about at some point in the not too distant past, Gabe. Client: Damus. #[0] this note below is re: the option to stop gif animation. Can you check it this out and let us know the latest when you have a minute please? 🤙🏾

#[3] I don’t think we were following one another at the time the above was raised initially 💜 Is this viable for Amethyst too?

Thanks so much for flagging, Gabe! Such an important topic. Totally not niche at all 🙏🏾

Thank you for once again helping to spread the word Angela, much appreciated

I am not exactly sure how to fix this. Reporting works when people know what they are looking at. For issues that are less known, reporting wouldnt be as effective. I am not sure where to start.

💜 thanks so much, #[3]. Rather than a reporting feature, the initial conversation was geared toward a settings feature => within settings, people would have the option to stop animation entirely. People who routinely utilize stop animation would turn it off and for those who don’t utilize the feature, it’d just be present but n/a.

Always. Thank you for making time to contribute to Nostr. Your insights are valuable for sure, and I hope the week ahead goes as you’d like it to! 🤙🏾

It is not only a health issue, also an esthetic question, I am an artist and I don't like to perturb my mind with such and horrendous collection of 90' stylish animated gifs. I am blocking them all using javascript on my browser.

Nostr wine and some clients now let you filter global by certain relays

Thanks for the feedback, I'll let my friend know. They are very interested in nostr but suffer from epilepsy quite badly

Let us know when they got onboarded 🫡

Thank you for speaking up on this, it’s so important

I know this is a serious issue for people sensitive to flashy images. I learned that from Pica-chew incidents. Accessible

apps for users with special needs would be great. May be just adding an option to hide images helpful?? I’m not a builder so only able to throw some ideas…

In talking to a couple people the feature that sounds best right now is an option to stop animation on all gifs within the client

That sounds great 😊

A low animation mode would be nice. Slow down the avatar craziness, click to play gifs.

Not quite!!! Here’s a 1MM ⚡️ we picked up on from #[2] to #[3]

I'm not epileptic but I would really love an option to stop all this gifs, profiles and memes.

And seeing how much this note has been zapped I'm not alone.

It would be great if NostrGram had exclusion filters, such as: 'I don't want to see any animated GIF content'
