For one, nobody owns it. Nostr is public domain, and most of the stuff being built on it is open source. The only person that can cancel/ban you from Nostr is yourself.
+1. Also, this is just one type of social platform. You can build any types of social platform, any digital tools, financial tools - its a huge ecosystem that's being built. The best part? Anyone can build on Nostr.

Twitter is a privately owned platform with your average person on there can every topic under the sun. #Nostr is an open source protocol with your not so average person on here and relatively niche discourse, #Bitcoin heavy for the most part. Itβs very early though, so keep in mind that things are quite subject to change in terms of demographic and content on here.

The most striking difference is that to "shadow ban" is not possible becuase there are hundreds of active relays, and lots of different clients to choose from. All you have to do is stop using the relay named nostr.fed.planted.relay.7
