We are surrounded by idolatry in many forms. I've been seeking to understand different groups within the church and what I've learned is how ignorant I have been about the whys and what they actually believe and teach. There are many straw man arguments and people talking past each other. I've have ended up being encouraged by how much we have in common instead of what we disagree on. I think each church tradition and denomination could learn from others if they would pray for humility and prioritize what Jesus commanded. That we love one another.

I visited an Orthodox church as a protestant and asked them about the icons. It was interesting and as a protestant while we don't have icons I see plenty of idolatry around me. We can make almost anything into an idol. The big oversight for me was that for centuries most people were illiterate and only had the church. Not only did they not have direct access to the Scriptures but they couldn't read them even if they had access.

I'm not excusing abuses or things I disagree with within the churches but it helps to understand by asking the people you disagree with and disagree in good faith and love. I think Christians are responsible for turning people away from Christ when we fight and act in anger and hate towards others. Its incredibly sad. Not saying we should devalue truth, but some of us can make it an idol and forget love. We should hold both. The truth in love.

Stay humble. Love the brothers and sisters.

My honest opinion about vibe coding or similar is that, anyone that does is it is an idiot. Expecting AI to generate applications or manage servers will only cost a shitton, be hard to maintain, and have a lot of bugs.

I find it useful as a “aggregate loads of data” tool. Basically Google but less shit.

I rarely come here. My posts don't have any reach, everything revolves around a small number of people, and it's very difficult to find someone to follow. This doesn't bother me, but it must bother those who expect centralized networks to behave in a similar way. In addition, the applications are unusual and the authentication systems created to solve the nsec/npub problem are confusing. If it's already complicated engaging a new centralized network, is even more difficult, let alone something so experimental.

Admittedly I'm not sure how you see 2 Thessalonians making any such point about the church. Nor do I see any division between church and congregation in the NT or any condemnation of the institution of the Church as a business.

I do think many modern churches *function* too much like businesses (overly focused on marketing campaigns, brandong, and numbers of congregants, corporate leadership structure rather than biblically modeled elder board, etc) but that's not the same as saying the institution of the Church or any local church *is* a business.

Much of the Church is in a bad way right now for sure, but what you are describing sounds like mostly mainline churches which went astray long ago and are mostly hollowed out. I really don't consider them churches or really a true or meaningful part of Protestantism.

There are still faithful spiritual enclaves of Protestantism you'll find among the PCA, OPC, Lutherans, CREC, Reformed Baptists, etc.

One note regarding the earlier discussion of the crusades and a lot of Christendom past—much of the Protestant Church, even the solid churches and denoms, do often make the mistake of ignoring the first 1500 years of church history at best, denigrating a lot of it at worst. This is something I would like to see change, and am indeed seeing a slow change. We ought not be so quick to disdain and disavow our fathers.
