No. I tried to find that out too. I think it has something to do with the more superstitious/luck element like a coin for fortune or something? I’m just guessing

My guess as well. Though I'd expect a "real penny" (the older copper ones), would at least corrode and maybe spread some ugly green funk around the mouth
